And Finally: Qatar

Qatar was the last leg of our trip. It was by far the most modern Middle Eastern country that we traveled to on our trip. It was also the richest by far. In fact, the richest country in the world, if you measure by per capita GDP. And surprisingly it's not oil, but natural gas, that they make their money from.

It was very modern, and seemingly socially progressive compared to the other stops on our trip.

All in all, I think everyone was blown away by the country. Be it the beautiful buildings and architecture, or the fun sand dune hopping we did, we all had a good time.

And now I'm back in cold Durham!

Maybe I will blog about our Christmas soon...

Our Time in Israel

Israel was really fun too. We had to do the border crossing which took a long time and was kind of intimidating. We met up with our friends Trey and Jessie (they live in Bethlehem). We toured the Old City in Jerusalem, the Sea of Galilee, the Mediterranean, and Bethlehem.

It was great to learn more about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. If you want the "simple version" of what the problem is, I can't give it to you because I don't there is a simple version.

Next stop, Jordan...

By the way, I was looking up the URLs for Trey and Jessie's blogs, and I think it's funny that Jessie's is called "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" and Trey's is called "The Middle of Nowhere". :)

Egypt is Pretty Cool

Egypt was the first leg of our Middle East trip. It was really fun. The group was me, Julie, Dave, and Jason (2 friends from Qatar).

We had a great time and saw some cool sights, as you can tell from the pics.

Thanksgiving and a Winter Adventure

We had Thanksgiving in NC in this year. It was really fun - we went across the street to have dinner with a few of our neighbors and had a great time.

Now you know I post to this blog a lot, but I may be taking a break b/c we are going on a trip tomorrow for a couple of weeks and I won't be near a computer. We are going to the middle east to see Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and Qatar. It is going to be fun!!

I will post about it when I get back, promise!
